Well, it is no surprise for those who are already familiar with this renown Le Brassus headquartered Swiss watchmaker. After all, this timepiece is one of the Royal Oak Offshore line-up, a series of revamped vintage timepieces that are most sought by collectors and enthusiasts around the world. Goes without saying, it inherit the iconic looks of the 70s AP Royal Oak family that was originally designed by talented haute horlogerie designer Gerald Genta.

For gent’s average wrist, this Audemars Piguet 25940SK.OO.D002CA.01.A which often dubbed as “AP ROO Rubber Clad” would be a large size, or some may say an XL (extra large). It has a hefty 44 mm case that is bold with a sporty flavor is made of premium grade stainless steel with an eye-catching fine brushed finish, and it is topped with a stationary black rubber clad (PVD-coated) bezel that is studded with eight polished steel screws. Encased within, is a high quality sapphire crystal that is further enhanced with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The watch might look a tad bit bulky in picture, however, for a mechanical chronograph watch, it actually a fairly thin one at 14.5mm thick only. And, despite its XL size, it is surprisingly comfortable to wear.

Due to its solid construction (and the mechanical movement, too), the case itself is a tad bit heavy. Speaking of which, overall, the watch weighs around 154 grams. Favorably, its supple Black rubber bracelet that leisurely bends without any resistance to the shape of your wrist does offer a decent counter balance for the weight, making it quite a pleasure to wear. This bracelet is tapers from 30mm to 18mm wide, designed to be able to accommodates a maximum wrist’s circumference of 8 inches, and it comes equipped with a stainless steel AP deployant folding clasp for convenient fitting. The face of this AP ROO 25940SK.OO.D002CA.01 chronograph watch that is dominant in Black is sharp and attractive. It is fashioned with modern contemporary styling, with a smart layout design that is opted for an improved read-ability, and offers some degree of night visibility by featuring fluorescent materials.

Speaking a bit about its technical aspect, as we have already alluded it before, this 44mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore is ticking with the AP Calibre 2226/2840. Although we do said that this "in-house" chronograph automatic movement is an exclusive one for AP, the 2226/2840 is not actually a manufacture calibre that is fully developed by the watchmaker from the scratch. Just like the 2326 that are commonly found on the more recent Offshores, this mechanical caliber is modified and finished by AP using JLC 889/2 as its base caliber, while its chronograph module is based on Dubois Dépraz. Apart from that fact, still, this sophisticated movement is without a doubt, a praised worthy one in terms of both accuracy and reliability.

Regarding accuracy, although this autonomy calibre has no COSC’s official certification, it is practically a chronometer grade. The one we have the chance to rate is running a tad bit fast, with an average deviation of less than 3 seconds per day. So, we guess it is safe to assume that it performs at an average deviation of ± 4s/day that is still within the average daily rate of COSC standard for a Chronometer grade movement (−4/+6). As for aesthetic, the rhodium plated AP Calibre 2226/2840 fitted in this ROO RubberClad is decorated with perlage and Côtes de Genève finishing.
The watch does look great on the picture, isn’t? Well, it looks even more fabulous on person’s wrist --although it wont be that good for those who particularly has a skinny wrist. And speaking of pairing, despite of its bold "sporty" styling, you’ll find that this masculine timepiece works just as good as expected with not only semi formal outfits, but also suits as well. A versatile luxury wrist accessory, if we may say. And better yet, needless to say, a highly reliable one as a timekeeper, and practical, too.
Just like the rest of Royal Oak family, this men’s 44mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 25940SK.OO.D002CA.01 is positioned as a mid-to-high end Swiss luxury timepiece. For all of its quality offerings, this AP ROO Rubber Clad is offered at an original manufacturer suggested retail price of $25,000.00. Still, even though it does a bit pricey for a steel on rubber chronograph, AP’s watches are known for their great quality-price ratio and longevity so that you can be sure that every penny you spent is worth. And of course, as it is not a new release, you can expect to get it less than its MSRP for this time being.
Anyway, just saying, within the AP Royal Oak family, there is a "refreshed" version of this watch model that is a tad bit smaller with a case diameter of 42mm, and it comes equipped with the uni-directional winding 50 jewels AP Calibre 2326/2840 instead of 2226/2840. In case you’d like to know, its reference number is 25940SK.OO.D002CA.03.
